The Art of Sauna
A timeless tradition connecting us to wellness, community, and the natural world
Healing Through Hot/Cold Therapy
Acadia Bay Sauna specializes in traditional electric heating rooms. For millennia people have been experiencing the health benefits of traditional Sauna rooms. A sauna is more than just a heated room—it's a ritual that dates back thousands of years. Originating in Finland, the traditional sauna experience involves sitting in a wood-paneled room heated to temperatures between 150°F and 195°F+.
Hot and cold therapy offers benefits for pain relief, reduced inflammation, and improved circulation by manipulating blood flow; cold constricts vessels (good for acute injuries/swelling), while heat dilates them (great for tight muscles/stiffness), with contrast therapy boosting circulation, aiding recovery, improving mood and immunity.

The Benefits of Sauna Bathing
Modern research continues to uncover the remarkable health benefits of regular sauna use
Cardiovascular Health
Regular sauna use has been shown to improve heart health, reduce blood pressure, and enhance circulation.
Detoxification
Deep sweating helps eliminate toxins from the body, promoting clearer skin and overall wellness.
Better Sleep
The relaxation response triggered by sauna bathing can lead to deeper, more restorative sleep.
Stress Relief
Heat therapy reduces cortisol levels and promotes the release of endorphins, nature's feel-good chemicals.
Respiratory Benefits
The warm, humid air can help open airways and ease breathing, particularly beneficial during cold months.
Muscle Recovery
Heat therapy increases blood flow to sore muscles, accelerating recovery and reducing post-workout soreness.

Infrared Sauna
Integrating the power of the Sun into your Sauna experience
Longwave or Far Infrared is the waveband at which water begins to absorb heat specifically well. With our body's averaging 60%+ water, Far Infrared heat is naturally absorbed by the skin. The warmth is readily absorbed by conduction into the tissue and blood, then transported throughout the body. The Sauna experience creates a deep, warming sensation. This directly effects our body's natural recovery processes, down to the cells mitochondria level.
An Infrared Sauna produces thermal radiated heat waves. Capturing and producing an experience similar to the warming feeling of the sun.

Sauna Etiquette
Shower First
Always shower before entering to keep the sauna clean and hygienic for everyone.
Respect the Silence
The sauna is a place for quiet reflection. Keep conversations soft and minimal.
Sit on a Towel
Bring a towel to sit on for comfort and cleanliness. It's more hygienic and protects the wood.
Listen to Your Body
If you feel dizzy or uncomfortable, step out. There's no need to push your limits— the benefits come from regular, moderate use.
Add Water to Stones Gently
If using a traditional sauna with stones, add water slowly and sparingly. The burst of steam (löyly in Finnish) is sacred—treat it with respect.
